Where the original pedal included two output jacks and a toggle to use it as either a standalone 10-watt amplifier or a pedalboard preamp, this slimmed-down preamp-only version drops the power amp stage entirely for a smaller, more pedalboard-friendly enclosure at a lower price, running on 9 to 18 volts DC with true bypass switching and foot-switchable Normal and Saturated channels replicating the Decade's wiry cleans and tightly coiled, aggressive gain.
The Catalinbread Karma Suture is a harmonic fuzz and drive based on the rare early-1970s Interfax Harmonic Percolator, delivering a smooth, harmonically rich, vintage-flavored dirt. Neither the germanium nor the silicon version is especially high gain, only approaching true fuzz at the top of its range thanks to rough-edged transistor clipping. Its defining trait is predominantly even-order harmonic distortion, which gives remarkable clarity even at extreme settings, letting complex chord voicings ring through with every note distinct, sweet, and musical. A four-control layout including a Density knob spans a thick fuzz tone down to a tight, harmonically rich overdrive. The original 2014 germanium version is thick and sweet with a softer picking attack, while the 2016 silicon version is more immediate and aggressive.
