The Alexander Pedals Dynaflanger Model 213 is a 10-mode digital boutique flanger from Alexander Pedals' Leap Series featuring 32 user presets across four banks, stereo TRS I/O, USB firmware updates, and a MultiJack accepting expression, MIDI, or footswitch. Its ten modes range from classic AUTO wide-sweep jet-plane flanging with through-zero flanging to DYNA envelope-controlled flanging that responds to pick attack, SPIRAL which creates a Shepard Tone endless-staircase pitch illusion, ECHO FLANGER combining up to 800ms delay with flanging, FLERB pairing hall reverb with auto-flanging for lush shoegaze textures, STEP for rhythmic step-sequenced modulation, and TURBO for experimental fade and chop effects. Suited to shoegaze, dream-pop, experimental, ambient, and alternative contexts.
The ToadWorks Barracuda is the only production flanger pedal purpose-built to reproduce the specific swirling flanger sound from Heart's 1977 hit Barracuda, developed in collaboration with Heart guitarist Howard Leese, who originally created that tone in the studio. Eric Johnson received his own Barracuda as a gift from Leese and put it to work on a Jimi Hendrix Experience tribute tour specifically to nail the flanger texture on House Burning Down, a Hendrix track requiring a specific modulated sound his existing pedalboard couldn't provide. Built with a lower noise floor and increased headroom compared to many vintage analog flangers, plus ToadWorks' true-stereo output, it gives players access to a historically specific, name-brand flanger tone rather than a generic modulation effect.
