Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The Bad Cat Cub V EL84 is a 15-watt hand-wired guitar amplifier using two EL84 power tubes, delivering the traditional Vox-lineage chimey character that the Cub platform is built on. EL84 tubes contribute bright, chimey harmonic complexity and responsive touch sensitivity with natural power-tube saturation achievable at studio and small-venue volumes. A switchable EF86/12AX7 preamp tube and tube-driven spring reverb expand its tonal range from pristine chime to harmonically rich overdrive. It suits studio players, home guitarists, and smaller-venue performers who want the full Cub character with natural tube saturation at manageable volumes.

The Blackstar DA100 Ruby is the Ruby-finish variant of Doug Aldrich's signature 100-watt EL34 tube guitar amplifier head. Built around the HT Stage 100 platform with three channels — clean and two overdrive channels each offering two independent voices — it covers warm springy cleans through Plexi-style crunch to ripping high-gain lead tones representing Aldrich's work with Whitesnake, The Dead Daisies, and Dio. Features include a Master Volume, Presence and Resonance controls, digital reverb with Dark/Light switch, and a power reduction switch dropping output to 10 watts. The Ruby finish is a visual distinction from the standard DA100 with identical circuit and tonal specification.
