The BBE OptiComp is an optical compressor pedal featuring a simple two-control layout (Threshold and Output) with true hardwire bypass. The optical circuit uses a light source and photoresistor to detect signal level and apply smooth, musical gain reduction. Constructed with mil-spec circuit board, 1% metal-film resistors, high-voltage poly caps, and 1 MEG ohm input impedance for correct pickup loading. All-metal enclosure with blue LED indicator. 9V battery or standard center-negative DC supply. Designed by BBE Sound with the same signal path attention used in their rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer units.

The BBE VariComp VC-3080 is an analog OTA compressor pedal built around the CA3080 operational transconductance amplifier, the same chip used in vintage Ross and MXR Dynacomp compressors. Controls include Attack, Threshold, and Output Gain. Input impedance is 470K ohms for vintage-correct pickup loading; output impedance is 10K ohms when engaged. Constructed with mil-spec circuit board, 1% metal-film resistors, and true hardwire bypass. The NOS CA3080 chip produces warm compression character consistent with classic 1970s-era studio compressors associated with country, funk, and clean guitar styles.
