Used by countless blues and classic rock players, it bridges the gap between light crunch and full overdrive.

The Maxon VOP-9 Vintage Overdrive Pro is an updated version of the Maxon OD-820, itself an evolution of the company's Tube Screamer circuitry, and despite the TS-9 styling it behaves quite differently. The voice is warm and smooth without the fizziness or pronounced mid-spike of many solid-state drives, with a tight, punchy bottom end and a hint of mild compression producing a rich, velvety tone into clean or already-driven amps. Its Drive knob acts as a blend between clean and clipped signal, so at zero gain it is a genuinely clean boost with no clipping at all -- unlike a TS-808, which always clips. An internal charge pump allows 9V or 18V operation: 9V behaves like a traditional overdrive, while 18V adds headroom and a fuller frequency response for a more dynamic, expressive feel. Highly touch-sensitive, distorting more as the picking gets harder.
