The Boss FZ-3 Fuzz is a back-to-basics silicon fuzz recreating classic late-1960s and early-1970s fuzz tones, built around five 2SC2458 silicon transistors for a voicing that sits between a Fuzz Face and a Tone Bender. Level, Fuzz, and Tone controls give it a thick, saturated, aggressive vintage character, with the Tone control extending its range from a high-gain Fuzz-Face-like voice into darker, more Tone-Bender-style distortion territory. Quieter in operation than many vintage fuzz circuits, it has been used by players including John Frusciante and Billy Corgan. It suits players wanting an authentic, simple vintage fuzz voice with just enough tonal range to cover both classic fuzz camps.
The DigiTech DOD Gunslinger is a MOSFET-based distortion pedal from the DOD lineup, using MOSFET transistors to produce the warm, organic distortion character that MOSFET-biased circuits provide as a smooth alternative to conventional silicon distortion. The MOSFET character provides softer clipping and warmer harmonic content, with a natural, rounded distortion tone. Part of the DOD reissue series reviving classic DOD circuit designs.
