Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The Boss Katana Generation 3 (Gen 3) is the third major revision of Boss's flagship Katana modeling guitar amplifier series, delivering noticeably more open and dynamic amp character compared to the MkII. Tube Logic modeling informs the five core amp characters — Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, and Acoustic — each with a Variation mode. The Gen 3 update improves tonal authenticity with more natural dynamic response, making it harder to distinguish from real tube amps than the MkII at the same settings. Power attenuation covers the range from full wattage through 0.5 watts for bedroom use. USB recording, headphone output, and Boss Tone Studio integration complete the platform. Available in 50W, 100W, and head formats.

The Boss Nextone Stage is a 40-watt 1x12 guitar combo amplifier using a hybrid analog-digital design that physically reconfigures its analog output circuitry to emulate the behavior of four different power tube types — EL34, EL84, 6L6, and 6V6. Rather than digital modeling of tube response, the Nextone Stage alters actual analog Class-A/B output stage configuration and the way the preamp and speaker interact with it. Clean and Lead channels cover two gain levels. The amp takes pedals particularly well — running overdrives and distortions into the clean channel is described as natural and highly responsive. At 40 watts it covers rehearsal and club-level performance in a reliable, low-maintenance platform.
