The Electro-Harmonix Russian Big Muff Pi is the legendary Russian-made version of the Big Muff Pi fuzz, produced in Moscow from the mid-1980s through the 1990s. Distinguished from the American Big Muff by a warmer, darker, and more compressed character with extended low-end response. The Russian circuit uses different transistor types and component values that produce a fundamentally different voicing compared to the New York version -- less aggressive, with a smoother sustain and a notably heavier low-end weight. Widely used in doom metal, shoegaze, and stoner rock for its massive, bass-forward fuzz wall character.
The EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Reaper is a dual-fuzz pedal from EQD combining two separate fuzz circuits in a single enclosure: the Hoof, a hybrid germanium/silicon muff-style fuzz, and the Reaperlike, a Tone Bender-style fuzz. Both circuits can run independently or in series in either order, and each has full controls including separate Fuzz, Tone, and Volume knobs. The result is a single pedal that delivers two distinct fuzz personalities with the ability to stack them for extreme layered saturation. The Hoof Reaper is among the most complex and complete fuzz offerings in the EQD lineup, suited to players who want maximum fuzz flexibility without multiple stompboxes.
