Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The Browne Amplification Gritador is a Tube Screamer-style overdrive built in Kansas City with refinements over the classic TS circuit. It delivers a more nuanced midrange bump that avoids the nasal quality that affects some Tube Screamer implementations, alongside a slightly more pronounced low end and the characteristic punchy, tight quality of the TS family. Works as a standalone overdrive or as the second channel of the Protein dual overdrive. Suits blues, rock, and country players who want a refined Tube Screamer voice with improved bass and less harsh mid-peak.

The Maxon TOD-9 True Tube Overdrive takes Maxon's OD-9 circuit and adds a real vacuum tube gain stage at the front, using a subminiature mil-spec tube running at 30 volts cascaded into a solid-state distortion section. The result is a warm, thick overdrive that stays highly interactive with picking dynamics in the way a hard-working valve amp does. A dedicated Tube control fills out the lows and low mids for a richer, fatter bottom end and introduces the natural sag that makes lead lines sustain and sing. Drive, Tone, Level and Tube controls span a subtle boost through to fully saturated overdrive.
