Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The Catalinbread Formula 5 Reissue is a recreation of the Portland boutique builder's Formula 5F6 overdrive, modeled on the Fender 5F6 Bassman tweed amplifier circuit from the late 1950s. It delivers the natural warmth and breakup character of a pushed vintage tweed amplifier, with a full-featured American-style tone stack including treble, middle, and bass controls alongside drive and volume knobs. The circuit captures the sag, warmth, and harmonic complexity of tweed Bassman crunch, covering clean American tones through naturally saturated breakup. Favored by blues, country, and classic rock players.

The Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop is a boutique overdrive designed to simulate the natural gain character of a pushed tube amplifier. Controls include Gain, Volume, Sag, and a three-position Tone switch. The Sag control reduces supply voltage to the circuit's amplifier sections, imparting progressively compressed, brownish saturation at lower settings to simulate a tube amplifier's power supply sag under load. The three-position Tone switch provides three levels of treble cut for voicing. The Millennium version added the Tone switch to the original three-knob Barbershop.
