The Catalinbread Karma Suture is a harmonic fuzz and drive based on the rare early-1970s Interfax Harmonic Percolator, delivering a smooth, harmonically rich, vintage-flavored dirt. Neither the germanium nor the silicon version is especially high gain, only approaching true fuzz at the top of its range thanks to rough-edged transistor clipping. Its defining trait is predominantly even-order harmonic distortion, which gives remarkable clarity even at extreme settings, letting complex chord voicings ring through with every note distinct, sweet, and musical. A four-control layout including a Density knob spans a thick fuzz tone down to a tight, harmonically rich overdrive. The original 2014 germanium version is thick and sweet with a softer picking attack, while the 2016 silicon version is more immediate and aggressive. It suits players wanting a clear, characterful, vintage harmonic fuzz that stays articulate on chords as well as single notes.
The Wampler Velvet Fuzz V2 combines a classic fuzz circuit with the character of a cranked EL34-driven British stack, producing a massive, amp-like fuzz voice rather than a purely vintage one. A two-way voicing switch changes its behaviour substantially: the Big setting gives classic fuzz tone with heavy compression across the bottom end and a thick, saturated wall of sustain, while the Tight setting firms everything up so it behaves more like a big, aggressive distortion with clearer note separation. Two distinct clipping options -- rather than the usual silicon-or-germanium choice -- extend the range further.
