The Crowther Audio Hot Cake CRM is a Cream-finish edition of the legendary New Zealand boutique overdrive pedal handbuilt by Paul Crowther. The Hot Cake is a FET-based overdrive and distortion using asymmetric clipping that closely mimics how a tube amplifier behaves when pushed into saturation, producing warm, harmonically rich breakup while leaving the undistorted component of the guitar signal intact. A Presence control provides midrange boost and a Cream switch adds a clean boost option. The CRM finish shares the identical circuit with other Hot Cake versions. Used by blues, rock, and studio players for decades.

The Fender Smolder is an overdrive pedal from Fender built around a JFET circuit that delivers warm, tube-style overdrive character with a full-frequency response and independent Treble and Bass controls. The Smolder covers clean boost through medium saturation, providing warm, harmonically rich overdrive character suited to blues, classic rock, and country applications. The JFET gain staging produces a soft-clipping character with the warmth and natural compression associated with tube amplifier saturation, and the separate Treble and Bass controls enable precise frequency adjustment without a mid-only Tone control.
