Tom Morello's guitar known as Arm the Homeless started as a light-blue, Stratocaster-style rear-loaded body reportedly sourced through Kramer connections, paired with a graphite Kramer-style knockoff neck he found in a bin at Nadine's Music, and grew into a genuine Frankenstein instrument he has continued modifying piece by piece for over three decades. It runs an EMG H, a single coil housed in a humbucker shell, in the neck position and an EMG 85 in the bridge, an original alder body, a Floyd Rose vibrato, and a Les Paul-style three-way toggle he repurposed entirely as a kill switch central to his percussive, sample-scratching playing style. The Arm the Homeless name and decal came from Morello himself, scrawled onto the guitar just before a soundcheck at the Whisky a Go Go, and it has remained his primary instrument across Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave's entire recorded catalog.
