The MXR Custom Shop Il Torino is a combined boost and overdrive designed by Italian amp and pedal builder Carlo Sorasio, built on a MOSFET gain stage that emulates classic tube amp behaviour. Its character is tight, glassy and almost hi-fi -- a clean, high-fidelity crunch rather than a woolly or compressed one -- and it is notably responsive to picking dynamics, which makes it effective as an always-on drive with a valve amp. A Boost/OD switch toggles between a cleaner boost mode with just enough compression and sustain, and an OD mode with the more aggressive character of a cranked tube amp.
