EarthQuaker Devices Arrows V2 vs Electro-Harmonix Crayon

The EarthQuaker Devices Arrows V2 and the Electro-Harmonix Crayon are both pedals sharing mid-forward, full, bright. The Electro-Harmonix Crayon leans transparent.

Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The EarthQuaker Devices Arrows V2 is the second version of the Akron, Ohio boutique builder's all-discrete preamp booster, designed to add a natural additional channel of gain to dirt pedals and amplifiers by boosting midrange, tightening the low end, and brightening the top end. The V2 update refines the original Arrows circuit with improved component selection and more consistent performance. Single-knob simplicity controls the output level while the internal circuit sculpts frequency response toward a brighter, tighter tone. Used before drive pedals or amplifiers to add presence.

The Electro-Harmonix Crayon is a full-range overdrive pedal from EHX designed to preserve the complete frequency spectrum of the guitar signal including both the low-end bass and high-frequency treble that conventional Tube Screamer-style mid-boosting overdrives compress or remove. The Crayon uses a circuit that avoids the midrange hump and low-frequency rolloff of TS-style designs, delivering a more transparent, full-bandwidth overdrive saturation suited to players who want drive without the tonal narrowing effect of traditional mid-pushed OD pedals. It covers light crunch through medium saturation with controls for Gain and Treble.
