The EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas Fuzz V2 is the second version of the Akron, Ohio boutique builder's massive silicon fuzz pedal, designed in collaboration with Wata from Boris as a recreation of her vintage Elk BM Sustainar fuzz. The V2 update refines the original circuit with improved component selection. Like the original, it delivers enormous, heavy distortion and smooth sustain with underlying grit that walks the distortion-fuzz boundary. Essential for doom, drone, noise rock, and heavy psych applications.
The ZVEX Fuzz Factory is a modern-classic five-knob fuzz built around vintage germanium transistors, famous for spanning smooth, creamy vintage fuzz to chaotic, glitchy, oscillating feedback. Its unusual Gate, Comp, Stab, Drive, and Volume controls are highly interactive: Gate tightens the sound and cuts off noise, Stab can throw the circuit into self-oscillating walls of sound, and balancing them produces everything from tight, gated stutter to droning, theremin-like whines and intermodulating overtones.
