Blended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. The Electro-Harmonix Pulsar is a variable-speed tremolo pedal from Electro-Harmonix, delivering optical-style amplitude modulation tremolo with Rate, Depth, and Shape controls. The Shape control selects between different tremolo waveforms from smooth sine wave to sharp square wave chopping. The Pulsar provides studio-quality tremolo with a wide Rate range from gentle slow pulse through fast, machine-gun tremolo chop.
Singletone is a small pedal builder, and the Malibu's beach-evoking name suggests a warm, sun-soaked tonal character, the kind of naming convention boutique builders often use to signal a pedal's intended vibe before a player even plugs in. Names referencing California surf culture typically point toward reverb, tremolo, or a smooth, glassy modulation rather than an aggressive gain circuit, though the exact function and circuit type for the Malibu specifically aren't confirmed from available sources. Small builders in this space frequently lean on evocative, mood-setting names as a way to stand out in a crowded pedal market.
