The Fool is a 1964 Gibson SG that Eric Clapton commissioned the Dutch art collective The Fool, principally Marijke Koger and Simon Posthuma, to paint in 1967, wrapping the body, neck and headstock in swirling psychedelic imagery of angels, clouds and abstract colour. It debuted with Cream on 25 March 1967 at New Yorks RKO Theatre and became central to Claptons woman tone during that period. Because the artists never applied a sealer, the paint has flaked significantly over the decades, and Clapton later removed the vibrola plate, exposing more of the original artwork beneath.
