The Fender Hammertone Reverb is an affordable, compact reverb pedal offering three reverb types, Hall, Room and Plate, each with Time, Level and Damping controls plus a multi-tone selector. Hall ranges from spring-ish ambience to a vast, cavernous space, Plate adds a lush metallic shimmer well suited to arpeggiated melodies, and Room provides fast, subtle reflections that add body to overdriven tones without an overbearing wash. The Damping control focuses and tailors the decay across all modes. Housed in a small true-bypass enclosure with a strong, distinctive personality despite its budget price, it is a versatile, gig-friendly ambient tool for practice, stage and studio across many genres.
The Strymon NightSky is an experimental time-warped reverberator, closer to a reverberant synthesis workstation than a conventional reverb. A Texture control selects three characters: Sparse, which behaves almost like a delay under staccato playing and smooths out on sustained notes; Dense, a thick plate-like wash that becomes chaotic at long decay times; and Diffuse, a wide, expansive ambient voice. The reverb core runs at a variable process rate, so the size of the space and the pitch of the tail can be swept smoothly or quantised to musical scales. A Voice section tunes shimmer to a specific interval, applied either into or inside the core, and tone, modulation, glimmer and drive shape the character further, reaching bright, cinematic and deliberately unnatural textures.
