The Fender Custom Shop Danny Gatton Signature Telecaster recreates Gatton's heavily modified vintage 50s Tele with swamp ash body, maple neck, and dual custom Joe Barden pickups modeled on his original guitar's specs. The Barden pickups deliver bright, twangy, biting, and crystal-clear tone with warm snappiness and full humbucking without true humbucker harshness, noiseless and handling everything from twangy country to smooth jazz to gritty blues. A fat custom 50s U-shaped neck with 9.5-inch radius and vintage frets enables big pedal-steel bends and chords alike.
The PRS McCarty is named for Ted McCarty, Gibson's president through the 1950s, and was PRS's move toward that older voice: a thicker body than the Custom 24, 22 frets on a 24.594-inch scale, a shallower neck angle and lower-output vintage-style humbuckers. The extra mahogany depth is the main tonal difference, adding low-mid weight the thinner PRS bodies do not have.
