Blended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.52% — moderately similar

Before his own Fender signature model existed, the Select Carved Maple Top Jazzmaster HH was Guthrie Govan's main Fender guitar, and he has said on camera that it is jazzmaster-shaped but carries some non-Jazzmaster DNA of its own. It pairs a chambered alder body with a carved flame maple top under a hand-stained gloss finish, a pair of Wide Range Special humbuckers, and a thick modern C-shaped maple neck with a channel-bound, compound-radius rosewood fingerboard running from 9.5 to 14 inches, plus a distinctively oversized Fender Select headstock. The Adjusto-Matic bridge with stop tailpiece and three-way pickup switching with an S-1 tone-shaping switch give it more in common with a carved-top rock guitar than a traditional offset Jazzmaster, matching Govan's need for a guitar that could handle fusion, rock, and virtuosic lead work in equal measure.
Brian May picked up a Gibson SG Standard with the Min-ETune automatic tuning system in the early 2010s, telling interviewers he'd always liked SGs but had never gotten around to owning one until then. The Min-ETune is a compact, battery-powered tuning module mounted on the back of the headstock, nearly invisible from the front, that can snap the guitar into any of twelve preset tunings or up to six custom-programmed ones at the push of a button. Beyond the tuning tech, the guitar carries standard SG Standard specs: a double-cutaway mahogany body, a slim 60s-profile mahogany neck, and coil-tappable 57 Classic humbuckers. May has no official signature tie to the model; it's simply a guitar he added to his collection for its own sake, distinct from the homemade Red Special that defines nearly all of his recorded and live tone.
