Rory Gallagher's legendary 1961 Fender Stratocaster (Serial 64351) is a double-cutaway contoured alder body with three-tone sunburst finish, maple neck with Brazilian rosewood slab fingerboard and bone nut. Originally fitted with two stock Fender pickups and an early DiMarzio FS1 bridge pickup, the guitar features Rory's custom wiring with the bottom pot as master tone control, disconnecting the middle pot, and a 5-way selector switch replacing the vintage 3-way. The tone cuts and sings simultaneously—bright and glassy on clean passages, snarling and compressed when pushed hard. Rory believed the worn appearance added to its distinctive sound and mystical quality.
