The Gibson L-00 is a small-bodied flat-top from the 1930s, built with a spruce top over mahogany and a short 24.75-inch scale. Its narrow waist and shallow depth produce a punchy, midrange-forward voice with fast note decay that cuts through a room without much bass bloom — the sound associated with pre-war Delta blues players, and the reason the shape is still reissued.
The Maton EBG808 is built on the Australian maker's 808 body — smaller than a dreadnought, closer to an OM — with a Sitka spruce top over Queensland maple back and sides, a native timber that gives it a tighter, more focused voice than the rosewood most fingerstyle guitars use.
