Eddie Van Halen's father Jan bought him this Gibson Les Paul Goldtop on August 15, 1969, trading in a Bundy flute and likely the original Teisco Del Ray toward the purchase, and it became Eddie's main guitar for roughly six years from 1969 until it was allegedly stolen around 1975. Fitted stock with two P-90 single-coil pickups, it was also the first guitar Eddie ever modified, removing the neck pickup's cover and eventually swapping the bridge P-90 for a full-sized humbucker as he began the hands-on tinkering that would define his later Frankenstrat innovations. This entry previously carried an incorrect 1957 date; corrected here to 1969, the year Eddie's father actually purchased it, matching the guitar's well-documented history.
