The Gretsch Billy-Bo Jupiter Thunderbird is a chambered solidbody electric, a modern revival of Bo Diddley's 1959 Jupiter Thunderbird design realized with Billy Gibbons. Its angular body is very light and well balanced, and a pair of TV Jones Power'Tron pickups give a hot-rodded Gretsch voice that keeps the brand's signature sparkle and twang but adds muscular midrange and enough output to push a preamp into breakup. The bridge pickup has an almost nasal bite balanced by a darker, softer neck humbucker. It is transparent and versatile, sounding good clean or distorted, and is closely associated with Gibbons and ZZ Top. Suits rock, blues-rock and rockabilly.
The Gretsch G6120 Brian Setzer is a signature hollowbody electric based on the classic 6120, the first Gretsch signature model since Chet Atkins. It features a large hollow body, TV Jones Filter'Tron pickups, a Bigsby vibrato and a trestle-braced or fully hollow construction depending on version. The result is a bright, twangy, woody voice with strong attack, airy resonance and a percussive snap ideal for rockabilly rhythm and lead. It cleans up beautifully into a loud Fender amp and takes slapback echo perfectly.
