The JAM Pedals TubeDreamer MK2 is a handbuilt Tube Screamer-style overdrive pedal crafted in Athens, Greece, regarded as one of the finest boutique interpretations of the classic Ibanez TS808 circuit. It produces a warm, mid-focused overdrive with smooth, natural compression and a musical treble response that avoids the harshness present in some Tube Screamer variants. The TubeDreamer MK2 retains the fundamental character of the original while refining the response and component quality beyond the standard production circuit. Suited for blues, Southern rock, country, and classic rock where a touch-sensitive mid-forward overdrive is central to the sound. The pedal works best as a boost into a driven tube amplifier or as a standalone low-to-mid gain overdrive.
The Maxon OD808 is the original overdrive designed by Susumu Tamura in 1979, effectively the same circuit as the Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer, which was built as its export-market twin under a different badge. Its diode sits in the negative feedback loop of the amplifier stage rather than in a separate clipping stage, producing a smoother, milder, more natural-sounding overdrive than harder-clipping circuits, closer to the character of a driven tube amp than a distortion pedal. Compared to the later TS9, it sounds a touch softer and clearer, with a less pronounced midrange hump.
