Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The MXR Custom Shop CSP028 '76 Vintage Dyna Comp is a faithful recreation of the original 1976 Dyna Comp compressor, built around the same CA3080 integrated circuit for quiet operation and relatively transparent, dynamic compression. It thickens and evens out the guitar signal, raising quiet notes and leveling loud peaks into a rich, full-bodied sustain, with a note attack that can snap forward with a pronounced pick transient while still sounding natural rather than clamped-down. Pushed hard, it produces a squishy, almost backward-sounding swell as the compressor's gain rushes in after the initial attack. It is closely associated with the slashing, squashed funk-rock tone of Adrian Belew and Andy Summers, and also suits huge, sustained clean tones in the style of David Gilmour.

The MXR M102 Dyna Comp is a compact optical compressor pedal delivering smooth, natural sustain enhancement. Its simple three-knob interface provides transparent compression suitable for lead and clean tones. The Dyna Comp appeals to players seeking vintage compressor character.
