The MXR Custom Shop Raijin Drive is a collaboration with Japanese pedal designer Shin Suzuki, reimagining two iconic Japanese stompboxes -- an overdrive and a distortion -- in a single enclosure with more tonal range than either original. A switch flips between the two voices: the overdrive side is smooth, fat and wide open with a rich harmonic bloom, aimed at classic Dumble-style smooth lead tone, while the distortion side is aggressive and harmonically rich with enough gain to get genuinely heavy. Level, Tone and Drive controls keep it simple. It works best pushing an already gritty amp over the edge, where the distortion mode adds real intensity and aggression, though reviewers note it can turn a little fizzy at extreme settings. Named for the Japanese god of thunder and lightning.
