MXR Hybrid Fuzz vs ThorpyFX Redacted

The MXR Hybrid Fuzz and the ThorpyFX Redacted are both pedals.

Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Description

The MXR Hybrid Fuzz is a silicon and germanium transistor fuzz pedal from MXR combining both transistor types in a hybrid circuit that blends the warm organic quality of germanium with the bright, cutting consistency of silicon. The hybrid approach provides a broader fuzz tonal range compared to either transistor type alone, while the silicon component provides temperature stability that pure germanium designs cannot deliver.

The ThorpyFX Redacted is a limited-run germanium version of The Veteran fuzz, built around specially selected fierce NKT mil-spec new-old-stock germanium transistors rather than the standard silicon transistors used in the regular Veteran. It combines a Rangemaster-style treble booster with a fuzz stage in a stacked, two-footswitch chassis, letting players run the boost and fuzz independently or together. The germanium transistor swap gives it a different thermal character and vintage-accurate buzz compared to the standard silicon Veteran, appealing to players and collectors specifically chasing authentic, temperamental germanium fuzz tone.
