Similarity
citedBlended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.

Description

The Providence PHF-1 Phase Force is an analog phase shifter with Speed and Output Level controls, ranging from a slow undulation to an extreme, wide sweep. A Mid Shift switch moves the phase-shift range upward to emphasise the upper mids, and Providence's Vitalizer buffer sits in the signal path so the dry character of the instrument survives the effect rather than being swallowed by it.

The Whirlwind Rochester Orange Box is a handwired phaser pedal designed by Michael Laiacona, cofounder of MXR, reviving the character of a classic 1970s script-logo phaser with modern 9V AC adapter power and true bypass. It produces a rich, organic, chewy phase swirl that reviewers describe as softer and warmer than the MXR Phase 90 it is often compared to, with a crystal clear, transparent, and musical top end. Higher-grade, tighter-tolerance parts keep it substantially quieter and less hissy than many vintage-style phasers. It suits blues, funk, and classic rock players wanting a vintage single-knob phaser with true bypass and essentially no tone suck.
