The Tone City Model M V2 is a budget mini distortion emulating classic British black-and-gold amplifiers -- Marshall territory, not the Mesa the name is sometimes taken to imply. Two distortion modes plus a separate boost circuit make it effectively a 2-in-1: crunch mode gives nostalgic 1960s and '70s rock tones running from light overdrive to a raunchy, open crunch, while high-gain mode delivers a more modern JCM-style voice with a powerful midrange and considerable gain on tap.
