Blended from circuit-archetype lineage, dynamic feel, tone-signal overlap and tone-vector distance — the tone vector itself is derived from editorial description text, not a measured acoustic signal, so this reflects how similarly the catalog copy describes the two, not a lab measurement. Shown only within a gear class, and only where there's enough evidence to be meaningful.38% — somewhat different

The Wren and Cuff J Mascis Garbage Face is a part-by-part recreation of Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis's main Big Muff since 1987, a specific 1970s EHX Ram's Head unit rather than a generic Muff clone, developed over more than two years and released in 2021. It extends the original circuit with a footswitchable second master volume and a germanium treble booster stage. The result is long sustain, creamy saturation, and an unmistakably raging fuzz character built for high-volume, wall-of-sound guitar tones.
The Wren and Cuff OG Box of War is the original version of the Los Angeles builder's recreation of the coveted Sovtek 'Civil War' Big Muff of the early 1990s. It is one of the creamiest-sounding Russian Muff clones available: thick, warm and woolly with a slightly darker overall voice and a fuzzier feel than the tall-font Muffs, plus the distinctive midrange presence and note clarity that lets a Civil War circuit cut through a mix instead of disappearing into it. Three controls -- Volume, Distortion and Tone -- keep it simple, and it resolves the reliability problems that plagued original Russian units. The enclosure borrows the wedge shape of the Univox Super-Fuzz, shrunk to a far more board-friendly footprint. True bypass, hand-built.
