The Fender Mustang arrived in 1964 as a short-scale student guitar and was adopted decades later by players who wanted exactly what it was cheap for. A 24-inch scale slackens string tension, and each of the two single-coils has its own three-position slider giving on, off and out-of-phase, so half the switch positions produce the thin, hollowed voice the guitar is known for. Its floating Dynamic Vibrato moves the whole bridge with the tailpiece.
