Free The Tone SOV-2 Custom Shop
Free The Tone · pedal
The Free The Tone SOV-2 Custom Shop is a reworking of the revered Providence SOV-2 Silky Overdrive, a favourite of players such as Matt Schofield and Carl Verheyen. It is designed to deliver natural overdrive while preserving the guitar's own character, running from a strong, near-clean boost through to a thick, saturated drive. The midrange has a definite punch, but unlike a Tube Screamer it does not lop off the bass and treble, so the full frequency range stays intact and chords keep their weight and air. The overdrive itself is firm and natural with a distinctive silky sustain. Internally it runs on a bipolar supply feeding the circuit +/-15V, giving more than three times the dynamic range of a conventional 9V pedal -- the source of its unusual headroom and touch response. Built to Free The Tone's Japanese standard, at a correspondingly high price.
