Maccaferri G-40

Maccaferri · acoustic guitar

Jimmy Page gave Jeff Beck a plastic Maccaferri G-40 as a birthday present, a cheaply produced guitar that originally sold for $39.95 and was manufactured from 1952 to 1969, notable for being made largely from molded plastic rather than traditional tonewoods. Beck valued it partly because Django Reinhardt reportedly owned a similar instrument, telling interviewers that fact alone was good enough for him regardless of the guitar's actual quality. He used it to record several albums including Who Else!, You Had It Coming, Jeff, and Emotion & Commotion, and performed it live hundreds of times, including at the Red White and Blues show at the White House in February 2012 alongside B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Mick Jagger in front of President Obama.
