The Wren and Cuff Eye See '78 OG is an authentic recreation of the 1978-era V4 op-amp Big Muff circuit, the version that replaced the original's transistors with op-amp ICs for a drastically different character. Compared to sweeter earlier Muffs, it is crunchier, more ballsy, and more ferocious, with a growling, sledgehammer fuzz and a buzzy, woolly midrange popularized by Billy Corgan's Siamese Dream-era tone. A tone bypass switch removes the tone control from the circuit for a significantly more open, raw sound with a pronounced midrange hump. Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls round out the three-knob layout. It suits players chasing the specific, more aggressive op-amp Big Muff era rather than the smoother, sweeter transistor-era Muff sound.
The Wren and Cuff Eye See Pi is a hand-built recreation of the IC / op-amp Big Muff, the circuit that swapped the classic transistor gain stages for op-amps. Its clipping section is drastically different from a standard Muff, producing a monstrously woolly, crunchy and altogether more ballsy sound than the sweeter vintage transistor versions -- the voice Billy Corgan used across Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream. It is aggressive and buzzy with a forward, growling midrange that cuts rather than scooping away, and it turns searing and almost Tone Bender-like as the treble is opened up. At high settings it delivers a sledgehammer wall of gritty harmonics and jet roar. Hand-built in Los Angeles.
