Jason Becker and his Cacophony bandmate Marty Friedman visited Carvin's guitar shop in 1988 in search of their ideal instruments, and Becker connected with the more traditionally shaped DC200, which Carvin's Custom Shop then built to his exact specifications: a sapphire blue finish over flamed maple with a matching flamed maple fingerboard, a tung-oiled neck, black hardware, and a tremolo system. It became one of his primary guitars, appearing in magazine features, print advertising, and on stage during his rise as one of the most celebrated neoclassical shred guitarists of his generation, before he was diagnosed with ALS in 1989 shortly after joining David Lee Roth's band, a diagnosis he has now outlived by decades while continuing to compose using eye-tracking technology.
