The Fender 25th Anniversary Stratocaster commemorated the model's 1954 debut with a 1979 limited-numbered run, the first Fender instrument issued that way. The first roughly 500 units shipped in Pearl White, but the finish proved unstable and checked badly, so Fender recalled and refinished most of the run in the metallic Porsche Silver most associated with the model today. Specs reverted to several pre-CBS Strat details players valued: a four-bolt neck plate in place of the three-bolt joint, the truss rod adjustment moved back to the body end rather than the bullet-style headstock adjuster, a gloss maple neck and board, and original grey-bottom single coils in all three positions.
