John Frusciante's 1955 Gretsch White Falcon, which most evidence suggests was actually built in 1957 based on its dual toggle switches and Filter'Tron pickups that weren't introduced until the later date, is the guitar behind Red Hot Chili Peppers' Californication-era tracks including Otherside and the title track itself. Frusciante found the guitar through actor and musician Vincent Gallo, who helped him source a significant portion of his gear collection, and has called it the nicest guitar he owns. He strings it with unusually heavy .012 gauge strings compared to the .010s he typically favors on his other guitars, and has cited Bow Wow Wow's Matthew Ashman and AC/DC's Malcolm Young as inspirations for taking up a Gretsch in the first place.
