The Moog Taurus I is a foot-operated bass pedal synthesizer released in the 1970s, played with the feet like an organ pedalboard while a keyboardist or bassist's hands remain free for other instruments, generating deep, powerful analog sub-bass tones rather than functioning as a guitar or bass effect pedal. It became a defining piece of progressive rock stage rigs, most famously associated with Rush's Geddy Lee, who used it to add massive low-end pedal tones while simultaneously playing bass and keyboards, as well as with Pink Floyd and Yes during the same era. Its thick, analog synthesizer bass became a signature sound of 1970s arena rock and progressive music.
