Gibson Les Paul Custom 1969
Gibson · electric guitar
John Frusciante acquired this 1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom, fitted with two uncovered PAF-style humbuckers, around mid-2004 as a practical alternative to his SG, whose factory tremolo system his guitar technician Dave Lee found unreliable and impractical for touring. He used it to record Readymade on Stadium Arcadium and to add overdubs on Make You Feel Better, then continued using it live during the Roll On The Red tour starting in June 2004. As a late-60s Les Paul Custom it carries the model's mahogany body, multi-ply binding, and ebony fingerboard, giving Frusciante a heavier, more sustain-focused alternative to the brighter Stratocasters most associated with his main recorded tone.
