Trucks describes it as the template for his ideal SG, citing its slim taper neck, '57 Classic pickups, and above all the weight and balance that make it comfortable through the long slide-playing sessions his style depends on. Over the years he modified it himself, removing the neck pickup cover in 1991 and taking off the pickguard by 1993, though not before B.B. King had signed the pickguard in white marker, a detail Trucks reportedly wanted to preserve by removing it rather than leaving it exposed to wear.
