The SolidGoldFX If 6 Was 9 BC183 MKII is a silicon Fuzz Face-style fuzz built around two BC183 transistors, widely regarded as the middle ground between the mushy compression of germanium and the brash, sawmill harshness of typical silicon. The voice is smooth and refined, holding together on chords rather than falling apart, with generous sustain on single notes. Five controls -- Volume, Bias, Fuzz, Volts and Saturate -- give unusual command over the circuit: Volts sets the supply voltage so the tone no longer depends on a dying battery, and Bias combined with it reaches any shade from gated, sputtering splat through to smooth and dynamic. Saturate trims the input for better cleanup and impedance matching. A Body toggle selects three voicings: Fat, Treble Boost and Classic. It cleans up beautifully as the guitar volume is rolled back.
