The Friedman Dirty Shirley is a 40-watt boutique tube head built around a modified Marshall JTM45 concept, voiced for vintage British classic rock crunch. It is big, beefy, chimey and articulate at once, with a remarkably touch-sensitive response that cleans up when you roll back the guitar volume and pushes into smooth, sustaining crunch when you dig in or turn up. Tweaked coupling and cathode caps give it a fat yet tight feel. It covers vintage Marshall plexi and hot-rodded gain tones and lower-gain territory, but is not built for pristine blackface cleans. Joe Perry runs multiple Dirty Shirley heads in his Aerosmith touring rig. Ideal for classic rock, hard rock and blues-rock.
