The Klon KTR is Bill Finnegan's own reissue of the Klon Centaur, one of the most sought-after overdrive pedals ever built. It is a transparent overdrive: rather than coloring the tone with a mid hump like a Tube Screamer, it preserves the amp's natural character while adding thickness and a distinctive midrange lift, with clearer highs and significantly higher headroom than a compressed overdrive. At lower gain it works as a clean boost, pushing an amp's front end harder without breaking up the tone. As gain increases it moves through warm, rich overdrive into fuller distortion, with a metallic edge on the clip at maximum drive while staying open and uncompressed rather than choked. A buffered/true-bypass switch is its only feature beyond the reissued circuit.
