Airline Res O Glass 1960s
Airline · electric guitar
Airline was a house brand sold through the Montgomery Ward catalogue, with guitars manufactured for it by Valco using Res-O-Glass, a fibreglass-resin body construction rather than the wood bodies used by Fender and Gibson, aimed at the budget end of the 1960s guitar market. The resin body gives a brighter, somewhat harsher tonal character than a wood-bodied guitar of the same era. These guitars later became closely associated with Jack White of the White Stripes, who favoured the same model as a deliberate reference to blues players such as JB Hutto who originally played these budget catalogue instruments rather than premium brands.
