The Silvertone 1452, sold under Sears own Silvertone house brand but manufactured by Danelectro, was a budget guitar built with the same masonite body and lipstick-tube pickup construction Danelectro used across its own-brand instruments, offered through the Sears catalogue at a lower price point than dedicated guitar-shop instruments. The Hornet nickname refers to this particular model within the Silvertone range. Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits has used Danelectro-built instruments including Silvertone-branded models for their bright, twangy single-coil character.
